Only in my World

I had surgery on Friday so I have been encouraged not to train for a while. I can probably say that I will at least take a week off from running and challenging workouts.  Well what does that leave for me? not sure looking into yoga on You Tube videos.  For anyone that has done Yoga that is challenging however it is not pounding like running and rock body.  We'll see.  Going in for follow up this morning maybe I can get permission to get back at it.  Already miss it and concerned that I will fall too far behind.

But even more interesting had to be the call I received from my son Friday morning (yes morning) he wanted to let me know he had to take out the dog. What dog? Did your sister drop her dog off? I knew better but hope springs eternal.  Because I knew what road we were going to travel. Son! I will need you to give the dog back to whoever found him and I don't care how good he is!  How are you going to feed him? I have been borrowing food for both of us.  What does that mean?  I think he may have flees, he is scratching a lot, Mom he is really a good dog. Son, I will try to get YOU some food today, not sure if I have time before I go to the doctor.  Why didn't you say something to me about food when we had our Team Hobbs meeting?  (4 days earlier)  I don't know, OMG I love the guy but sometimes I just have to wonder.  Anyway I will figure it out how to get food to you, make sure you give that dog back.  I hang up from my son and then I get the sound of 3 incoming messages......YES photos of the dog. OMG.  I go grocery shoppping before I head to Louisville for surgery I refuse to by dog food.  My sister is kind enough to take me for the surgery she drops off the food with my son and after the procedure comes to tell me he is cute (the dog) and my son is really worried about me (sure he is).  Well I am sky high from the meds and straving so we swing by to see my son, so he can see that I am alright (sure) and grab a bite before we head home.  Well here comes the dog,  I thought I told you to get rid of the dog? I have been trying but the girl hasn't called me back.  My sister starts with he is so cute and good dog, my son gets on the phone to call the girl that found "Dog".  I am High but not so High that I don't hear him say to the girl "my Mom will take him and I am sure she will keep him" and get this......he goes on to say now that I have your number I will give you a call....REALLY?? he is trying to chat it up with the girl.....OMG.  Get off the phone SON I thought you were all worried about me?  Folks I have been played by my sister and son and my mind.....(MEDS) I heard these words come out of my mouth put the **** Dog in the car I will figure this out.

Well it is Monday morning, "Dog" and I have already been out for a walk.  You have gotta love my life.
p.s. no name for "Dog", in the running are Harper, Reid, Talbot and Louie.

Training

What a week (really only 4 days) but I workout with a Trainer 2 days a week to do something other than run, jump, etc.  I have a Trainer to push me harder.  Anyway I asked her about Crossfit/RockBody and so here we go.

So as any good Trainer would do she checked it out and the first thing we did was a fitness test (to see where we are).  She and I work out daily so you would think this is not going to be to much of a challenge....wrong.....1. Squat Jump, 2. Push up, 3. burpie, 4. High knee, 5. Lunges (I hate Lunges), 6. Tuck Jump, 7. Dips, Crunches.  We did each exercise 50-52 seconds with a 10 second break in between.  Not bad? WRONG again.  That had to be the longest 50 seconds and the shortest 10 seconds I have ever seen.  What I couldn't wrap my mind around was the fact that I sucked at this.  I mean I work out almost every day and have been told maybe push the envelope a little to hard.  This kicked my butt and had to be the hardest thing I have done in a very long time........

Until yesterday's workout........(sigh)  1.  Shoulder Squat with a 14lb bag, 2. 1 leg push up, squat and jump to the side (really), 3.  high knee kicks, drop 10 mountain climber (keep you butt low)(yeah, ok!), 4. Jumping Jack with some other madness attached. again with the 50/10 second stuff.  We were supposed to do 3 sets.......not so much.  But it gets better (not really).

We move on to YOGA/TRX (who knew?)  but this was by far my favorite not the easiest but I really like this.  Maybe we can do more (hint, hint) we start in a plank, then crunch, then plank, then adductor, bend your knees put on your elbow, then push up back out to plank, then up to jack knife, plank and down.  This is not to be done quickly but slowly, we did build up to 2 in a row.  I have attached the video to give you an idea of what it should look like.  http://youtu.be/8EWujbnFlE0

Have you added something new to your workout?

I don't "JUST" run

I find myself reading anything with the words marathon, running. I workout approximately 2 hours a night running, cycling, swimming, lifting, stair-master elliptical machine and aqua aerobics and I have a personal trainer (that loves TRX). So I see this video of a workout for about 12 minutes and I think "WOW" I need to give that a try. I am trying to figure out how I can add "rockbody" "crossfit" workouts into my training program. I tell my trainer about it she is excited so we are going to give it a try. The left side of my brain known as "Patricia" says are you insane, the right side "Pattey" says Girl with some thought and careful planning you can do this (don't listen to Patricia....age is nothing but a number).

Yesterday at the gym I used the elliptical machine as a warm up for my run. Got about 2.5M in 30m and then to the treadmill to do "speed work" for 50 minutes….. got in just shy of 5 miles, for me that is pretty good time. I am feeling pretty good about my workout and progress. I’m asked all the time why or get a strange look when I say I am going to run a marathon. Yes it is 26.2 miles, why??? Because!
Friends that run and do other events understand why I do what I do….and because I cross train I appreciate the level of work/focus and commitment that is required to do your personal best in whatever sport. It is rather interesting that someone would think less of another sport because you hone in or "just" run(26.2mi), swim, bike (100mi), lift weights, speed walking, row and the list goes on and on. "Patricia" would say that "person does not understand what is really required to become your best at "just" a single event. "Pattey" would say "did you really just say that", "OMG" and shake her head. In the back of my head I hear this song "Nobody can dream your dream for you" (Elizabeth Withers) and I just keep it moving.
